Would you tell us a little bit about what you do in Memphis?

We have a commercial real estate development and convenience store business, and a few years ago, I transitioned into film production and storytelling. I use my platform to bring social justice narratives to life, focusing on human rights, social impact, and untold stories that need a voice. Whether through documentaries, narrative films, or community initiatives, my goal is to spark dialogue and inspire change.

Are you a native? If not, what brought you to the Memphis area?

No, I’m not a native of Memphis, but this city has become my home. I was born and raised in the serene valley of Chitral, in the northern region of Pakistan. Life brought me here through family, work, and opportunities, and over time, I’ve come to love Memphis for its rich history, diverse culture, and strong sense of community.

What do you do for fun here?

I enjoy exploring the city’s arts and culture scene, spending time with friends and family, and discovering local food spots. Memphis has such a vibrant energy, and finding hidden gems and creative spaces around the city is always exciting.

What are you most passionate about?

I’m passionate about storytelling as a tool for change. Whether through filmmaking, community engagement, or personal conversations, I believe stories have the power to educate, inspire, and bring people together. I’m also passionate about mentorship and supporting the next generation of creatives and entrepreneurs.

Is there someone that you greatly admire, and if so, why?

I admire the good in all people. We are resilient and naturally inclined to support one another.

That being said, I have always admired Iqbal Masih, the young activist from Pakistan who fought against child labor. His courage and sacrifice at such a young age continue to inspire my work. He proved that one voice—no matter how small—can make a world of difference.

I also greatly admire Prince Karim Aga Khan IV, who has dedicated his entire life to eradicating poverty in the world’s most vulnerable regions and has served humanity with unwavering commitment.

Who is someone that has helped shape you, and in what way?

Many people have influenced my journey, but I give most of the credit to my upbringing. My parents raised me to be a problem solver, to be generous, and to be kind—values that have stayed with me throughout my life. Their trust in me has been invaluable in shaping both my career and personal growth.

Please share your philosophy on making a positive impact on a community.

I believe no act of help is too small. Making a positive impact starts with awareness, action, and using whatever resources we have to contribute. Whether through storytelling, advocacy, or supporting local efforts, change happens when we come together with intention and purpose.

What do you enjoy most about our community here?

The resilience and creativity of the people. Memphis is full of dreamers, artists, and change-makers who work tirelessly to uplift one another. There’s an authenticity here that’s hard to find anywhere else.

What is one thing about your life here that you absolutely love?

I love that Memphis is a city with heart. Whether in the arts, activism, or business communities, there’s a sense of belonging and shared purpose.

More importantly, I am fortunate to have my family around—my husband, children, parents, and siblings. My family truly supports and looks out for one another, and that sense of closeness makes Memphis even more special to me.

Can you share a story of a time when you saw your work make a real difference in someone’s life?

During my film Gunjal in Paris screening, a young audience member approached me and said the story completely changed how they saw child labor and social justice. They expressed their desire to get involved in activism and advocacy. That moment reminded me why storytelling matters—it has the power to open eyes, shift perspectives, and inspire action.

If you could describe Memphis in one word (or phrase), what would it be and why?

Soulful. Memphis has a deep history, a rich culture, and an unshakable spirit. Whether through music, activism, or community, it’s a city that feels everything deeply and fights for what it believes in.

Both of my children love Memphis. My son moved back after studying in Boston, and my daughter also wants to return after completing her studies. That tells me Memphis is more than just home—it’s a place that truly stays with you.
